I have written a lot about the importance of pure food in our children’s diets and the changes that can be seen not only in physical health, but also in mood and behavior. Chemicals in our food are harmful to our health in more ways that we can imagine.
But, have you ever stopped to think about your skin? What do you put on it daily in the form of cleansers, moisturizers, cosmetics, lotions, and creams? What does it come into contact with while using household cleaners with toxic chemicals?
Beautiful Skin
Considered to be the largest organ in our body, our skin has amazing functions. It not only protects our inner body from the dangers in our external environment, but it also provides heat regulation, excretion of toxins, evaporation control and water resistance, sensory input from thousands of nerve endings for a variety of sensations, and absorption.
It is a very important and mostly underrated part of our bodies! How well do you take care of your skin? What I am most concerned with in this article is the skin’s absorptive ability.
It is well-known that our skin absorbs a great amount of what it comes into contact with. Why do we have medicine ointments, numbing creams, and nicotine or hormone patches?
According to the Environmental Working Group’s Cosmetic Safety Database, Skin Deep, out of 10,500 various ingredients used, “nearly 90% of ingredients used in personal care products have not been evaluated for safety by any publicly accountable institution. And as people apply an average of 126 unique ingredients on their skin daily, these chemicals are raising concerns, for their potential impacts to human health and to the environment.”
It was shocking to me when I learned that the FDA does not require any safety testing for these products! With just a quick scan through some of the products listed in the Skin Deep database, you would be even more shocked to know what is being used and what damage it does to our bodies!
Pure and Safe Skin Care
It is only logical to realize the importance of safe body products for our children. It doesn’t make much sense to take such care with a healthy, raw food diet when they are being bathed in chemicals every day and absorbing them through the skin! If you are here because you are looking for natural ways to help your child with autism spectrum disorders, then it is even more critical that you avoid harmful chemicals in your body care and cleaning products.
This has been a concern of mine since I have received many questions about safe soaps and shampoos and such for children. I personally use Miessence products and love them! This is the world’s first extensive range of certified organic skin, hair, body, cosmetic, oral, and nutritional products available. They truly care about what ingredients go into their products, the packaging they use, and the quality of
